East Asia and Pacific (EAP) has suffered the costliest disasters of any region as a whole, with disaster losses continuing to outpace economic growth in some subregions. Annualized economic losses amount to more than $300 billion per year when slow-onset disasters are taken into account. In terms of climate-related events alone, Southeast Asian countries often rank among the top 10 countries most affected globally.
