GFDRR's City Resilience Program supported a training workshop in Jakarta, Indonesia from August 11 to 13, 2026 which equipped officials at Indonesia's Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency (ATR/BPN) with tools, knowledge and approaches on how to mainstream climate resilience into the preparation of 500 detailed spatial plans.
Preparation of these plans will enable the Indonesian government to achieve more risk-informed urban development and land-use decisions across Indonesia. More specifically, the plans are expected to strengthen the government's efforts to direct capital investments in priority development areas, promote safe urban densification, and prevent the expansion of agriculture into forest, coastal, and conservation areas.
The tools covered at the workshop include tools on participatory climate impact and vulnerability mapping, rapid climate risk profiling, validation of climate-informed spatial planning, and climate risk analysis. The workshop was held under the auspices of the Integrated Land Administration and Spatial Planning (ILASP) Project, financed by the World Bank, which aims to strengthen climate-informed spatial planning, land tenure security, and land administration in Indonesia.
