Building on the results of the First and Second East Asia regional workshops, over 70 representatives from East Asia, the Pacific and Africa convened from June 3-5, 2014 in Manila at the Third Flood Risk Management and Urban Resilience Workshop.
The two and half-day workshop, organized by the World Bank in collaboration with the Philippines Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), is part of a regional partnership program supported by the Government of Republic of Korea, the World Bank, and the Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR). Through case studies presentations, the participations shared practical and operational aspects of flood risk management projects, focusing on the institutional, financing, coordination, planning, and monitoring arrangements. The attendants also visited a number of field sites to learn about innovative approaches in flood control and disaster prevention adopted in Manila.
Attended by policy-makers from Bangladesh, China, Indonesia, Japan, Lao PDR, Mongolia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Senegal, the Solomon Islands, Sri Lanka, and Vanuatu, international and national experts, as well as representatives from partner and donor organizations, the workshop facilitated regional knowledge transfer and fostered a multi-stakeholder community of practice on integrated urban flood risk management.
