The Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery, the World Bank, and the World Resources Institute are pleased to present our joint event, "Enhancing Resilience through Nature-Based Solutions", at CoP 24 in Katowice, Poland on December 7, 2018.

Developing countries are on the front line of climate change. Despite this hardship, they are taking actions to achieve resilient development by addressing the nexus of disaster risk, climate change and socio-economic development by using nature-based solutions (NBS).

NBS have multiple benefits as buffers from climate-related impacts; resilient water-related services, resource base for important economic sectors such as fisheries and tourism; and can increase the resilience of vulnerable communities that depend on natural resources through sustainable livelihoods.

This event will provide an overview of state-of-the-art knowledge on NBS for disaster risk reduction, water-related services and socioeconomic development; showcase achievements to date illustrated by country examples from least-developed countries and small island states; and propose a way forward to scale up NBS to tackle climate change.

It will open with a short presentation on encouraging new findings about the nexus of NBS and traditional engineered infrastructure. It will follow with a moderated panel discussion in which representatives from national and local governments, as well as non-governmental organizations, share their experiences on the use of nature-based solutions for resilience.
