A game simulation called, “Hurricane Hurry,” invites government officials and disaster risk practitioners to experience the fast-paced dynamics and decisions involved in protecting a country’s finances during a crisis. The simulation has been “played” across ministries, educational institutions and global disaster risk conferences as a fun, instructional way to share key concepts of disaster risk financing. Hurricane Hurry was co-designed by Pablo Suarez and Janot Mendler de Suarez and adapted into digital format by game developer, Good Games.

It was co-financed by the United Kingdom (UK) Aid through the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) of the UK; and by the European-Union-funded Caribbean Regional Resilience Building Facility, managed by GFDRR and the Technical Assistance Program for Disaster Risk Financing and Insurance in Caribbean Overseas Countries and Territories, which is part of the Resilience, Sustainable Energy and Marine Biodiversity Program (RESEMBID) implemented by Expertise France, the World Bank and GFDRR.
