In the face of recent crises like the Türkiye and Syria earthquakes and floods in Pakistan, Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR) remains steadfast in leveraging its technical expertise, promoting evidence-based decision making, providing analytical support, and drawing from its vast experience to support diverse countries and communities in bolstering their resilience against disaster and climate risks. In Sub-Saharan Africa, building regulations are often still based on colonial-era documents and are not adapted for disaster and climate risks. Through its Building Regulation for Resilience thematic area, GFDRR’s launch of a report that serves as the first comprehensive analysis of the building regulatory environment in the region aims to address outdated and inadequate regulations, improving resilience to disaster and climate risks in the region. The GFDRR 2023 Partnership Days event, which was held from May 22 and 23, 2023, at the World Bank headquarters in Washington, D.C. and online, brought together GFDRR members, observers, partners, and World Bank staff from all over the world. The event through a focus on innovation, inclusiveness, and impact was an opportunity to demonstrate GFDRR’s commitment to navigate a world marked by challenges that make the already complex task of disaster risk reduction even more difficult.
