Event Summary

Thank you to all who participated in the Understanding Risk (UR) West and Central Africa! Held from November 20-22, 2019 in Abidjan. The conference attracted close to 600 experts and practitioners from many sectors and representing government agencies, the private sector, multilateral organizations, NGOs, research institutes, civil society from over 45 countries, including 30 African countries. For the first time in the history of UR events, we had the chance to share one day with the OpenStreetMap community for a unique UR – State of the Map Africa common day.

A carbon-neutral event, UR West and Central Africa sought to offset all carbon associated with the production of the event, thanks to our partnership with Climate Neutral Now, the United Nations Carbon Offset Platform.

UR West and Central Africa was organized by the team of the World Bank in Côte d’Ivoire and GFDRR, in partnership with the Ministry of Sanitation and Hygiene (MINASS). This conference was funded by the European Union-funded Africa, Caribbean, Pacific – European Union (ACP-EU) Program.
