World Reconstruction Conference 4: Knowledge and Lessons Learned from ACP Countries
Context and Objectives
The World Reconstruction Conference (WRC) is a global forum that provides a platform for leaders, experts, policy makers, and practitioners from international organizations, NGOs, academia, and the private sector from both developing and developed countries to share disaster reconstruction and recovery experiences, and take forward the policy dialogue for an effective international disaster recovery and reconstruction framework.
Following the first WRC in May 2011, the second edition in September 2014, and the third edition in June 2017, the 4th edition of the WRC (WRC4) will take place on 13-14 May 2019 in Geneva, Switzerland. WRC4 takes place in conjunction with the 6th Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (GPDRR, 13-17 May 2019), and a special session at GPDRR will report on the outcomes of the WRC4.
The theme of the WRC4 is “Inclusion for Resilient Recovery” and the overall objective of the conference is to identify effective ways for governments, international organizations, NGOs and civil society groups to create opportunities for active and meaningful participation of the communities in recovery to make this process more inclusive.
The conference will also showcase the work undertaken by ACP-EU NDRR funded projects.
The ACP-EU NDRR grant will facilitate the participation of delegates from the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Group of States, including as speakers and panelists, to various sessions being organized during the conference.
The representatives from ACP countries will share their knowledge and lessons learnt regarding the inclusion of all stakeholders in post-disaster recovery and reconstruction processes.
The project is in its inception phase.
Partnerships and Coordination
WRC4 will be organized in close coordination with the EU, UNDP and UNISDR.
