While poor and vulnerable people in the Europe and Central Asia (ECA) region are often hardest
hit by disasters and climate shocks, social protection
programs are not regularly used to respond to natural disasters. This is despite the existence of mature programs and recent investments in delivery
systems. This grant aims to address this gap by assessing
how social protections systems in selected countries can respond to disasters
that negatively affect poor and vulnerable people. A set of
country assessments will be carried-out to identify options for improving the adaptability of these
programs. These assessments will be
complemented with just-in-time TA to further the recommendations of the
assessments.
