The
overall objective of this technical assistance (TA) is to support the Cities
Support Program (CSP) led by the National Treasury of the Republic of South Africa, in i) building
resilience into cities’ spatial development plans and investments, and ii)
improve their emergency responses to disasters. The CSP is entering its second
phase and its Climate Resilience and Sustainability Component (CR&S) aims
to support national, provincial and city stakeholders to scale up, align and
integrate adaptation and mitigation strategies with city plans and investments
in infrastructure and service delivery to strengthen city productivity,
inclusivity and sustainability. As a transversal component operating across the
CSP, the component will integrate climate resilience and sustainability in
metro planning, financing, delivery and implementation, focusing on
strategic infrastructure assets. In doing so, this component aims to strengthen
the critical and untapped role of cities in the national climate change
response effort.
