The objective is to contribute to the reduction of impacts of flooding in Muang Xay City and enhance the Government of Laos capacity to
provide hydro-meteorological services and disaster response. This will be achieved by supporting (i) planning and implementing resilient urban investments by piloting innovative approaches in sustainable urban design and the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT); and (ii) modernizing hydromet services by supporting institutional change and stakeholder coordination. The activities will inform the ongoing Lao PDR Southeast (SEA) Disaster Risk Management (DRM) Project (P160930, $30 million), as well as potential future investments in urban resilience in Vientiane City. This Trust Fund will also support translating the Bank’s Corporate commitments on gender, climate change, and Maximizing Finance for Development (MFD) into project implementation.
