The specific objective of this grant is to facilitate deployment of state-of-the-art tools and approaches in dam safety risk management to inform dam safety and flood risk mitigation investments in the Nile Basin. This grant complements the dam safety and flood risk management components of the Nile Cooperation for Climate Resilience project (P172848) with a focus on improving national resilience to geophysical hazards (including earthquakes, landslides, etc.) and floods, which could trigger a dam-related disaster. It has two components: 1) Earth Observation tools to support a regional dam inventory and 2) Support for development of a dam safety risk indexing methodology to inform identification and prioritization of potential dam safety investments by national governments with in-depth support to Tanzania, Kenya and Ethiopia.
