The objective is to
strengthen the capacity of the Government of Tonga to provide social protection
(SP) to affected households in response to climate-induced natural hazards,
thereby building resilience of those most vulnerable. The technical assistance aims
to provide technical assistance on ways to improve the disaster responsiveness
of existing social protection programs and support the development of new
programs and delivery mechanisms for building resilience of poor households to
climate change. This will be achieved primarily through: (i) providing
technical support for program design and implementation for adaptive SP
interventions, with a focus on climate change; and (ii) developing options for
promoting literacy on climate change and resilience through SP programs and
piloting one such intervention.
