The objective of this grant is to provide support to improve the legal and institutional framework for the safety of dams and the capacity for community driven disaster risk management. This will be implemented as part of the Integrated Watershed and Water Resources Management Project in Sri Lanka (IWWRMP) . This is a US$ 69.53 million project aimed at improving water resources management through the restoration of priority watersheds, and enhanced functionality of water resources infrastructure. The sub component, Multi-sector Water Resources Planning (US$ 7.7 million) includes enhancement of non-structural measures for improving dam safety and technical support for a multi-sectoral national agency for dam safety for water, irrigation, hydropower, etc. while Infrastructure Improvements component (US$ 57.8 million) focuses on structural improvements.
