Meeting of the Small Island States Resilience Initiative Practitioners' Network

Context and objectives

The Small Island States Resilience Initiative (SISRI) is a global program with the aim to support Small Island States in reducing climate and disaster risk to their populations, assets, ecosystems and economies. The Initiative supports investments for resilience, provides Technical Assistance, builds a strengthened knowledge base, and develops a community of practice.

Main activities and results

This project supported more than 70 participants, including 41 practitioners from 23 countries to the third meeting of the Small Island States Resilience Initiative (SISRI) Practitioners' Network in Mexico City, in May 2018, back to back with the 2018 Understanding Risk Conference.

In addition, the project supported another 60 participants from 29 Small Island Developing States to attend the Fourth SISRI Practitioners’ Network meeting which took place in Geneva on 12-13 May 2019, as a side event of the fourth edition of the World Reconstruction Conference and the 2019 Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction.

In total, more than 130 people were supported to attend two SISRI practitioners' meetings in Mexico in May 2018 and in Geneva in May 2019. During both events, participants were able to share experiences and explore resilient ways to recover in the aftermath of disasters.
