This
program aims to identify and inform solutions to assist Pacific Island
Countries to improve adaptation of their power systems to withstand extreme
weather and climatic impacts.Activity 1: Climate Risks Assessment. This activity will map out meteorological and climate related risks for FSM and RMI with respect to strong wind and heavy rainfall that can be particularly excessive during extreme weather events. Expected Outputs of activity 1 are high spatial resolution maps for hazards. Those maps will be used to identify key disaster prone zones that affect existing and may impact future energy assets in FSM and RMI. Activity 2: designing climate resilience power system. This activity will investigate how to strengthen resilience of existing power infrastructure and recommend new power infrastructure that will contribute to the system's overall resiliency to natural hazards and extreme weather events. Expected Output of activity 2 are i) power system vulnerability assessment for FSM to identify vulnerabilities of existing power infrastructure to extreme weather events and recommendations on resilient design for existing and new power infrastructures.
