The objectives of this proposed grant are twofold:
(a) to reduce the creation of new disaster risk through improved urban planning
by deepening the understanding of the current legal and regulatory framework
for the urban development control, accompanying procedures and local capacity to
i) improve, streamline and digitize the current building approval process, ii) promote
and improve diagnostics and capacity around resilient urban planning processes,
and iii) prevent further encroachment into environment-sensitive areas in
Monrovia to support resilient urban development; and (b) to consequently identify
and prioritize opportunities for resilient investments to improve urban
management and service delivery within the preparation and implementation of
the Liberia Urban Resilience Project.
