The objective of this technical assistance is to
improve the Government of Lesotho (GoL)’s ability for emergency preparedness
and response through strengthening of regulatory and policy framework for disaster risk management, and translation
of these policies into action. The Government of Lesotho is aware of the challenges posed by
climate and disaster risks and have some regulatory and policy framework for
disaster management and institutional arrangement in place. However, technical assistance is needed for
relevant agencies to translate broad policies in to action and develop detailed
operational guidelines.
This technical assistance will
strengthen meteorological services and early warning systems, develop multi-hazard
contingency plan for better preparedness, support the development of a national
public health and emergency response and preparedness plan, and improve management
and operation of the Disaster Management Fund (DMF) managed by the Disaster
Management Authority (DMA)
The
grant from the ACP-EU-GFDRR NDRR program will enable the World Bank to mobilize
internal and external expertise to advance these activities.
