The specific activities to be supported by GFDRR would include support to: (i) an inventory of dams in Lao across a range of different sectors; (ii) institutional options to improve the safety of dams and downstream communities; (iii) an appropriate legal framework to improve the safety of dams and downstream communities; (iv) experiential exchanges and study tours between Lao and Japan to enhance the operational capacity for dam safety inspections, emergency preparedness procedures. These activities will be informed by the underlying analysis provided by the country case study prepared by Nippon Koei and the technical deep dive held in Tokyo and financed by GFDRR as part of the Global Assessment of Legal and Institutional Frameworks for Dam Safety.
