The
objective is to demonstrate how disaster risk
management can be integrated and mainstreamed across China’s expansive urban
areas by incorporating relevant design principles and implementing modalities
across a range of IBRD financed urban operations in China (during preparation as well as under implementation).

The
focus will be on
enhancing the capacities of Chinese cities, related national and provincial
entities as well as education and training institutions to better manage
climate and disaster risks by leveraging the World Bank’s extensive urban
portfolio in China of USD 1.84 billion across 16 projects under implementation
and an additional investment of about USD 1.05 billion in five projects which
are currently under preparation.
