The objective of this grant is to assist the Government of Botswana with the evaluation and implementation of short-term
alternatives to new water source development, namely non-revenue water
reduction and wastewater reuse. The grant activities include: (1) reviewing the most
recent studies that will form the next National Water Development Plan and
looking at gaps in quantity and quality of water needed; (2) assessing the
demand for reclaimed wastewater, including acceptability and potential price
points, as well as evaluating the demand and technical feasibility to provide
the reclaimed wastewater for industrial use; and (3) study the potential and impacts
of using this reclaimed water for groundwater recharge.
