The objective of this grant is to build on the previous flood assessments conducted in Ouagadougou - such as the flood mapping undertaken as part of the preparation of the Master
Plan for Greater Ouagadougou of 2009 - and will provide crucial input in
the preparation of the World Bank financed Ouagadougou Urban Transport Project (currently under preparation). Specifically, the Grant will finance detailed flood mapping of Ouagadougou, in particular the areas a priori selected for the future mass transit routes, and help to incorporate flood risk in
the spatial planning and technical design of the mass transit system, the road
infrastructure on which it depends, and the associated facilities. On the institutional side, the Grant will finance activities (workshop) aimed at enhancing the capacity of the newly established
Directorate General of Urban Mobility and Road Safety and the Ouagadougou City
Agency for Major Infrastructure Works (AMGT) to systematically consider flood
risk in urban transport planning and management.
