The objective of this Grant is to strengthen the Government of Benin’s technical, legislative and institutional capacity for managing climate and disaster risks, by supporting key regulatory and policy reforms, as well as analyzing ex-ante and documenting the potential social and poverty impacts of these reforms on the country's population. Specifically, the objective will be achieved by providing technical assistance (TA), including: (i) supporting the review and finalization of a Disaster Risk Management (DRM) Bill and a national DRM Strategy, which will mandate a comprehensive DRM approach; (ii) providing inputs in the preparation of the national health emergency standard operations procedures; (iii) strengthening territorial planning tools; (iv) strengthening the urban planning and development Code to ensure integration of climate and disaster resilience considerations; (v) developing technical guides for safe and resilient school infrastructure in Benin; and (vi) facilitating knowledge sharing and exchange on DRM issues, in particular relating to the above-mentioned TA activities.
